The Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief
has been suggested to construct bridges or culverts on the rural roads in
coordination with the Local Government Division (LGD).
The suggestion came from the 25th meeting of the Parliamentary Standing
Committee on Ministry of Planning of the 11th Jatiya Sangsad held today with
its Chairman Abul Kalam Azad in the chair at the Jatiya Sangsad (JS).
The meeting also recommended for motivating the common people for planting
palm and coconut saplings to avert lightening in the country as well as to
make science-based observations on the benefits of planting such saplings,
said a press release.
Standing Committee member and Planning Minister MA Mannan, Major (retd)
Rafiqul Islam, Bir Uttam, Biren Sikder, Adiba Anjum Mita attended the
meeting.
Following a special invitation from the committee chairman, State Minister
for Planning Dr Shamsul Alam also attended the meeting.
The meeting was discussed in details about the progress of different
development projects under the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief,
Local Government Division, and the Rural Development and Cooperatives
Division.
The meeting suggested for setting the priority through lottery for
distributing arsenic-free tube wells among the allotted persons at union-
level under the project for “Supplying safe water throughout the country”
under the Local Government Division to ensure more transparency, the release
added.
The meeting also put emphasis on speedily implementing a good number of
projects including the Bangladesh Rural Development Academy modernization
project, expanding the operations of Small Farmer Development Foundation
(SFDF).
Secretaries to the ministries and divisions concerned and other high
officials were present, among others, at the meeting.
