Dinajpur: BNP candidate for Dinajpur-5 constituency (Parbatipur-Phulbari) Barrister AKM Kamruzzaman has pledged to work for improving the living standards of the people and ensuring public safety if elected in the 13th Jatiya Sangsad election.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Kamruzzaman, also legal adviser to BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman, outlined his election pledges, views on election code of conduct, the July Charter referendum, and expectations from the upcoming polls. He emphasized his commitment to building safe localities in the two upazilas and prioritizing overall socio-economic development.
If elected, Kamruzzaman plans to initiate visible development projects including advancing the Barapukuria coal mine, the coal-based thermal power plant, and the Madhyapara hard rock mine in Parbatipur Upazila. He also mentioned efforts to expedite activities at the country’s largest railway junction and the railway locomotive factory in Parbatipur.
Kamruzzaman expressed his intention to boost employment by utilizing the potential of the rice mill industry and to transform the municipal areas of both upazilas into planned and aesthetic towns. Addressing the election code of conduct, he assured that party leaders and activists have been properly instructed and are strictly abiding by all regulations set by the Election Commission.
He confirmed that all campaign materials were removed from his constituency following the announcement of the election schedule. Regarding the July Charter referendum, Kamruzzaman stated his party’s full support for its implementation and urged voters to vote ‘yes’ in the referendum alongside supporting the BNP’s Sheaf of Paddy symbol in the parliamentary election.
Kamruzzaman expressed optimism about the national election, highlighting that voters have regained their freedom to cast votes and he anticipates a landslide victory for the BNP. Dinajpur-5 constituency includes Parbatipur and Phulbari upazilas, with a total of 477,516 voters across 141 polling centers. Other candidates in the race include NCP’s Dr Abdul Ahad, Jatiya Party’s Kazi Md Abdul Gafur, and several independent candidates.
