Dhaka: Digital transformation of 100 schools in the hill tracts is underway, informed Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma. This initiative is directed by Chief Adviser Dr. Muhammad Yunus, utilizing Star-link technology.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Supradip Chakma stated that multimedia classrooms have already been introduced, with online activities in these schools expected to be completed within the next 90 days. He shared this information during a meeting with three Scandinavian diplomats at his office in the Chittagong Hill Tracts Heritage Preservation and Research Center, located on Bailey Road. The diplomats present were Ambassador of Norway to Bangladesh Hakon Harald Gulbrandsen, Ambassador of the Royal Danish Embassy Christian Brix Moller, and Second Secretary and Head of Politics at the Danish Embassy Olle Landin.
Discussions during the meeting centered around sustainable development and multidimensional cooperation in the hill tracts region. Supradip Chakma expressed appreciation for the diplomats’ interest and ideas regarding development in the area. He highlighted the importance of quality education, livelihood improvements, biodiversity conservation, and modernizing the agricultural sector as crucial for sustainable development in the Chittagong Hill Tracts. These initiatives are expected to energize the local economy and create employment opportunities.
Supradip Chakma also mentioned the government’s commitment to democratic values and human rights, emphasizing efforts to preserve languages and scripts of ethnic communities through language-based books at the primary level and specialized training for local language teachers. He identified livelihood development as a key issue, stressing environmentally harmonious economic growth and addressing water scarcity in the region.
The meeting also covered topics like the PR and Bangladesh’s upcoming elections. The diplomats shared their views on the UN Human Rights Office and assured support to Bangladesh’s democratic transition. Supradip Chakma assured them that institutions are working to ensure free, fair, and participatory elections as scheduled by the Election Commission.
