Dhaka: Home Adviser Lieutenant General (Retd.) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury has asserted that criminals and terrorists have no place in the country. “There will be no room for criminals in the country,” he told journalists after visiting the temporary police camp at Guagachia under Gazaria Police Station, which recently suffered an attack by the robber gang led by Nayan and Piyas.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Home Adviser revealed that Nayan and Piyas have fled to a neighboring country. He warned that if they return, their destination will be the Keraniganj Central Jail. Addressing the demand of locals for a permanent police camp at Guagachia, he confirmed that steps are underway to establish the temporary camp as permanent, emphasizing its critical role in maintaining law and order in the area.
In response to inquiries about the government’s commitment to law and order, Jahangir stated that the administration is resolute in its efforts to maintain control over the situation. On the recovery of illegal arms, he highlighted ongoing efforts to seize such weapons and mentioned rewards for successful recoveries. He also noted that police patrols, including those along river routes, will be further strengthened.
Jahangir, who also serves as Agriculture Adviser, addressed issues concerning potato pricing. He announced that the government has set the cold storage potato price at Taka 22 per kilogram, ensuring farmers receive a fair price. He assured that potato prices will decrease, and if necessary, the government will procure over 50,000 tonnes of potatoes.
The visit was attended by Dhaka Range Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police Rezaul Karim Mallick, Munshiganj Deputy Commissioner Fatema Tul Jannat, Superintendent of Police of Munshiganj Muhammad Shamsul Alam Sarkar, Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance and Administration) Mohammad Kazi Humayun Rashid, and Gazaria Upazila Executive Officer Md. Ashraful Alam.
