Dhaka: Inviting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and his family to visit India, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has emphasized that Bangladesh and India can become catalysts for each other’s sustainable growth, work for each other’s security, and enable mutual prosperity as two fast-growing economies and aspiring societies.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Speaker of the Indian Lok Sabha Om Birla represented the government of India at the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected government of Bangladesh led by Tarique Rahman, Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Indian Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri accompanied the Speaker. Om Birla conveyed a personal letter from Prime Minister Modi to Tarique Rahman, inviting him to visit India at his earliest convenience.
Prime Minister Modi expressed his desire to work closely with Tarique Rahman to strengthen the multifaceted bilateral relations between the two countries, enhance regional cooperation, and advance common goals in various areas, including connectivity, trade, technology, education, skill development, energy, healthcare, and cultural and people-to-people exchanges.
As two close neighbors, Modi reiterated the deep-rooted friendship between Bangladesh and India, founded on shared history, cultural ties, and the aspirations of their peoples for peace and prosperity. The Indian Prime Minister congratulated Tarique Rahman on the victory of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party in the parliamentary elections and his appointment as Prime Minister, highlighting the trust and confidence reposed by the people of Bangladesh in his leadership.
Following the swearing-in of the new Bangladesh government, Speaker Om Birla met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, extending greetings from the Indian Prime Minister and the people of India. Both leaders expressed optimism about working together for the wellbeing of their countries’ peoples, pursuing a people-centric menu of cooperation.
The BNP Chairman, Tarique Rahman, was sworn in as Bangladesh’s new Prime Minister at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban. President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath. Earlier, the BNP Parliamentary Party elected Tarique Rahman as the leader of the party’s parliamentary party. An official from the Indian delegation reported that the Indian Air Force special aircraft landed at the Bangladesh Air Force airbase in Dhaka, where the delegation was received by Bangladesh Ministry of Foreign Affairs Secretary Dr. Md Nazrul Islam, Indian High Commissioner in Bangladesh Pranay Verma, and Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Md Riaz Hamidullah.
