Dhaka: The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has directed all government healthcare centers across the country to designate separate wards or cabins for treating measles and suspected measles patients. This decision aims to improve the management and care of individuals affected by the virus.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, an order was issued by Dr. Abu Hossain Md Moinul Ahsan, Director of the Hospital and Clinic Wing of the Health Directorate, instructing hospitals to ensure the admission and proper treatment of measles patients. The directive emphasizes the necessity of having adequate doctors and healthcare workers in these isolation wards to facilitate effective care.

Specialist physicians are mandated to conduct rounds every morning and evening, including during holidays, to ensure continuous monitoring and treatment. The order specifies that only one guardian or visitor will be allowed to stay with each admitted patient to minimize the risk of spreading the infection.

Furthermore, the DGHS has instructed healthcare authorities to regularly update information on measles and suspected measles patients to the Management Information System (MIS) server via the DGHS Surveillance Portal. For any urgent requirements, hospitals have been advised to contact the provided hotline number.

The directive is applicable to all medical college hospitals, specialized hospitals, district and general hospitals, and upazila health complexes nationwide. The Health Directorate stated that this measure is intended to enhance coordination and management of measles treatment at government healthcare facilities.
