Barishal: Health officials today reported a surge in dengue cases, with 337 new infections and two fatalities recorded in the past 24 hours. The majority of the cases were reported in the southwestern Barishal region.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) disclosed that Barishal division saw the highest number of hospitalizations, with 101 patients affected by the mosquito-borne disease. The DGHS statement highlighted the widespread impact across several regions, with 58 patients hospitalized in Chattogram division, 41 in Dhaka division excluding the capital, 50 in Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC), and 26 in Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) areas. Additionally, 28 cases were reported in Khulna division, five in Mymensingh division, 27 in Rajshahi division, and one in Sylhet division.
Since the onset of the dengue outbreak this year, Bangladesh has recorded 54 deaths, with a total of 13,931 infections. Encouragingly, the DGHS reported that 366 patients have been discharged from hospitals across the country following their recovery.
The dengue epidemic last year resulted in 575 deaths and affected 101,214 people in Bangladesh.
