Munshiganj: People from all walks of life in the district have welcomed the interim government’s decision to set up a medical college here. They said it will alleviate their sufferings as they will not need to rush to Dhaka for better treatment once the government medical college is established.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision to set up a medical college was taken at a meeting on April 7, attended by home adviser lieutenant general (retd) Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, public works and housing adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, cultural affairs adviser Mostafa Sarwar Farooki, Bangladesh navy chief Admiral Mohammad Nazmul Hassan, and other officials. Following the meeting, Jahangir Alam Chowdhury stated that the medical college will be established within the shortest possible time considering the long-cherished desire and demand of the people in Munshiganj.
Munshiganj civil surgeon Md Manjurul Alam mentioned that work for establishing the medical college will begin within a few months by demolishing the old academic building of the 250-bedded hospital. People will avail facilities of all kinds of treatments round the clock at the hospital, he said.
The medical college will open new doors to the people in the district, according to Munshiganj Bar Association president Advocate Md Zakaria Molla, who expressed his gratitude to the interim government for this decision. High school teacher Md Mahbubur Rahman added that the establishment of the medical college would eliminate the need for residents to travel to Dhaka for treatment, and it could transform the district’s social and educational landscape.
Md Anwar Hossain, a resident from the remote Char Kewa area, expressed his happiness with the news, noting that thousands of people would benefit from the hospital.
