DC Urges Orderly Completion of ‘July Uprising’ Events Amid Weather Concerns

Khulna: Deputy Commissioner of Khulna, Mohammad Saiful Islam, has called on all relevant government, semi-government departments, autonomous bodies, educational institutions, and socio-cultural organizations to ensure that events marking the ‘July Uprising’ are completed in an orderly and smooth manner. This directive was issued during the July monthly meeting of the Khulna District Development Coordination Committee held at the Deputy Commissioner’s Conference Room.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Deputy Commissioner highlighted the forecast of heavy rainfall in the Khulna region during the last week of July and early August due to the monsoon. He emphasized the need for preventive measures to tackle potential waterlogging in Khulna city and the Fultala and Dumuria areas. He also stressed that canal flows should not be obstructed in ways that could harm public interests, and he urged for prompt repairs to roads damaged by the rains across various parts of Khulna.



Assistant Commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police, Khondokar Hossain Ahmed, assured that police efforts are aligned with public expectations, with regular patrols and checkpoints active in Khulna city. Recent investigations have successfully identified the causes behind recent murders, leading to the arrest of suspects. Surveillance has also been intensified to curb the activities of juvenile gangs.



Md. Nazrul Islam, Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension, reported significant crop damage due to heavy rainfall over the past two weeks. A total of 565 hectares of land, out of 23,958 hectares, were affected, impacting crops such as Aus and Aman paddy, jute, chili, vegetables, watermelon, beans, and ginger. Seedbeds of transplanted Aman in 481 hectares also suffered damage. An estimated 13,071 farmers were affected, with financial losses amounting to approximately Tk 27.65 crore.



The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Bitan Kumar Mondal, Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime and Operations) Anisuzzaman, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mosammat Mahfuza Khatun, and various government officials, UNOs, and committee members.
