Dhaka: The Cricketers Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) is set to hold an election for the president’s post only, following the unopposed election of 10 members to various other positions.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the election will feature current cricketer Mohammad Mithun and former cricketer Selim Shahed, who is the incumbent ad-hoc committee convener, as candidates for the president’s post. The election is scheduled for September 4. In contrast, the roles for senior vice-president and vice-president have already been filled by former national opener Shahriar Hossain Bidyut and current wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan Sohan, respectively. Eight other cricketers, including Najmul Hossain Shanto, Shamsur Rahman Shuvo, and Mehidy Hasan Miraz, have secured positions as executive members without contest.

Notably absent from this year’s CWAB elections is the post of general secretary. The election will take place at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur, running from 3 pm to 5 pm on September 4. The Chief Election Commissioner will be BCB Director Iftekhar Rahman Mithu, with former captain Habibul Bashar Sumon and Nasir Ahmed Nasu serving as the other members of the election commission.

A voter list comprising 212 individuals has been finalized, with considerations being made to implement e-voting. Minhajul Abedin, a former cricketer and past official of the Bangladesh Cricket Board, expressed hope for full participation: “We hope that everyone will participate in the election. The voter list has already been prepared, where 212 people have registered. We hope that these 212 voters will attend and vote.”

Currently, Bangladesh’s cricketers are in Sylhet for a T20 series against the Netherlands, set to conclude on September 3, allowing them to participate in the voting process.
