Customs Officials and Business Leaders Exchange Views in Khulna

Khulna: A views exchange meeting between custom officials and local business leaders was held here today on the multifaceted roles of customs and the revenue department. Speaking on the occasion, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Member (VAT Policy) Md Azizur Rahman highlighted that Bangladesh Customs is engaged in various roles beyond revenue collection, including trade facilitation, environmental protection, social security, and the prevention of smuggling.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting took place at a city hotel in Khulna, where the NBR member emphasized the importance of lawful revenue payment for the country’s development. He noted that mutual interaction and cooperation between customs and the business community can contribute to building a strong, transparent, and economically prosperous nation.



The meeting was presided over by Mongla Customs House Commissioner Md Safiuzzaman, with Bhomra Customs House Commissioner Md Mushfiqur Rahman delivering the welcome address. C and F executive members Md Abdur Sabur and Md Mosharraf Hossain also spoke at the meeting.



It was informed that in the fiscal year 2024-25, the National Board of Revenue collected Tk 370,875 crore in total tax revenue. Out of this, Tk 101,98 crore was collected by customs, accounting for approximately 27 percent of the total NBR revenue.
