Dhaka: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus emphasized today that the primary aim of technology should be to simplify lives, create opportunities, and diminish societal inequality, rather than merely enhancing productivity.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Prof Yunus highlighted that the current interim government has launched several initiatives in the technology sector. These include formulating ordinances to develop the nation’s digital public infrastructure, establish a robust data governance framework, and ensure cybersecurity, particularly in safeguarding personal data.

The remarks were made in a message issued in anticipation of the Digital Device and Innovation Expo 2026 (DDIExpo 2026), scheduled to take place at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the capital from January 28. The four-day event, themed ‘Bangladesh to the World’, is being organized jointly by the ICT Division, Bangladesh Hi-Tech Park Authority, and Bangladesh Computer Samity (BCS) and will continue until January 31.

Prof Yunus praised the expo’s theme as timely and appropriate, asserting that it represents Bangladesh’s firm commitment to evolving from a technology consumer to a producer, innovator, and global collaborator. “I am happy to know that the Information and Communication Technology Division is organizing the ‘Digital Device and Innovation Expo-2026’ on January 28-30. I congratulate all those concerned for taking this timely initiative,” he stated.

The Chief Adviser further noted that the government’s efforts to build a technology-enabled ecosystem are fostering a safe, transparent, and investment-friendly environment. This, he explained, is accelerating technology-based industrialization and spurring innovation, connecting the creative potential of young entrepreneurs with the global market.

Prof Yunus expressed his wishes for the overall success of all programs related to DDIExpo 2026.
