Court Sends Sadhan Chandra to Jail Rejecting Bail Petition.

Dhaka: A court here today rejected the bail petition of former food minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder in a case filed with Mohammadpur police station over an alleged attempt to murder a businessman. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Jakir Hossain passed the order when Majumder was produced before the court by the investigation officer of the case, Md Jahangir Alam. At the same time, the court also ordered the authorities concerned to provide necessary treatment to him as per the prison rules.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, along with the ex-food minister, a total of 184 people, including former transport and bridge minister and Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader, were made accused in the case on charges of attempting to kill businessman Imrul Kayes Faisal, 29, during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement at Mohammadpur Beribadh area on July 29. After taking treatment at Dhaka Medical College and Hospital, Faisal filed a case against them with Mohammadpur police station on September 26.

Earlier, the Detective Branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested Sadhan Chandra Majumder from the city’s Bashundhara residential area at around 8:30 pm on October 3. He had been put on a seven-day remand, and after the remand, he was sent to prison on October 10. Later, he was produced before the court on October 30 while he was detained in jail. After that, the court granted his three-day remand in this case with Mohammadpur police station. He was produced before the court today again in connection with the case.
