Court Orders Attachment of Properties and Freezing of Bank Accounts of Ex-MP Ranjit Over Graft Allegations

Dhaka: A court here today ordered the attachment of four flats, two houses, 60 shops, and 79.62 bigha plots, and the freezing of 137 bank accounts belonging to former member of parliament (MP) from Jashore-4 constituency, Ranjir Kumar Roy, his wife Niyoti Rani Roy, sons Rajib Kumar Roy and Sajib Kumar Roy, and other family members over graft allegations. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib passed the order, allowing a plea from the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the properties to be attached include two flats, each measuring 1356 square feet, located in Jashore Sadar, and two others, each measuring 1224 square feet, situated beside Jashore New Market. Additionally, 60 shops and several plots are located in Abhaynagar upazilla. The total worth of the properties, as per the deeds, is valued at Taka 17 crore.



The bank accounts to be frozen are distributed among the family members: 25 accounts are in the name of Ranjit, 21 in the name of Niyoti, 44 in Rajib’s name, 20 in the name of Rajib’s wife Rishita Saha, 12 in Sajib’s name, and others in the name of Sajib’s wife Anindita Malakar.



The ACC’s plea highlighted the appointment of an officer to investigate allegations of amassing illegal wealth and money laundering against the accused. The plea emphasized that freezing both movable and immovable properties is necessary for the sake of a proper investigation.
