Dhaka: A Dhaka court today ordered the freezing of seven bank accounts containing Taka 94 lakh belonging to former Bogura-5 lawmaker Md Habibur Rahman amid allegations of corruption. The directive was issued by Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Zakir Hossain Galib, following a petition by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the anti-graft body filed the petition as part of its ongoing investigation into claims that Rahman has accumulated wealth illegally. The ACC expressed concerns that Rahman might attempt to hand over or transfer the funds in question.
“For the sake of proper investigation, his accounts should be frozen,” stated the ACC in its plea. The commission hopes this measure will facilitate an effective inquiry into the allegations against the former lawmaker.
