Dhaka: The country on Monday recorded 17 deaths from measles and similar symptoms, marking the highest single-day toll since the outbreak began in March this year. Of these, two deaths were confirmed as measles-related, while the remaining 15 were classified as suspected, as reported by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to United News of Bangladesh, out of the suspected deaths, the highest number of fatalities, 10, were reported in the Dhaka district. This recent surge has brought the total number of confirmed measles deaths to 52, with suspected deaths now at 259 since the outbreak commenced on March 15.
DGHS data indicates that in the past 24 hours, 1,302 suspected measles cases were recorded. This brings the total number of suspected cases to 41,793 since March 15. Additionally, 154 new confirmed measles cases were reported within the same period, increasing the total number of confirmed infections to 5,467.
Since the outbreak began, a total of 28,832 suspected measles patients have been hospitalised. Encouragingly, 25,151 of these patients have recovered, according to health officials.
