Dhaka: The Council of Advisers has made significant changes to the national observance calendar, deciding not to commemorate any special day on August 8. This decision comes amidst the revision of previously declared observance days.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the council has resolved to celebrate ‘July Shaheed Dibosh’ on July 16 and ‘July Mass Uprising Day’ on August 5. The announcement was made by Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam, who shared the updates on his verified Facebook account. These observances mark important historical events, with July 16 commemorating the police firing incident in Rangpur that resulted in the death of Abu Sayed.

Earlier, August 8 was declared as ‘New Bangladesh Day,’ marking the formation of the interim government led by Professor Muhammad Yunus. However, in the latest meeting, the council decided to retract this observance. Alam highlighted that the council’s previous decisions have been revised to reflect the new schedule, emphasizing that there will be no special celebration for August 8.
