College student killed in Rangamati road crash

A college student was killed and another injured when a truck hit their motorcycle in Naniarchar upazila of the district on Saturday, said police.

Nancy Chakma, 18, was the daughter of Jyotimoy Chakma of Karengatoli area of Baghaichhari upazila. She was a first-year student at Rangamati Government College.

The injured is Dipen Dewan, Nancy's cousin.

The accident occurred at noon when the speeding truck, loaded with stones, hit their motorcycle on Rangamati-Khagrachari road in the Hazari area, leaving the duo seriously injured, said Sujon Halder, officer in charge (OC) of Naniarchar police station.

Locals rushed them to the Rangamati Sadar Hospital where doctors declared Nancy dead upon arrival. Injured Dipen Dewan is now receiving treatment at the hospital.

Nancy's body has been kept at the hospital morgue, said the OC.

Police seized the vehicle, however, the driver managed to flee the scene, the police officer added.
