An awareness session titled ‘Climate Change and Human Health’ has been held in the city to highlight the health risks associated with climate change. The session was organized by the National Youth Council Bangladesh with support from the Department of Environment at SOS Children’s Village Rajshahi.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Tasmina Khatun, Deputy Director of the Department of Environment, attended the event as the chief guest. Speakers at the session noted that climate change is disproportionately affecting children and youth, emphasizing the importance of raising awareness among the younger generation about environmental issues. They highlighted the strong link between the environment and human health, stating that climate change has evolved into a major public health issue.
Tasmina Khatun emphasized the necessity of personal awareness, eco-friendly behaviour, and active youth participation to mitigate the adverse impacts of
climate change. She also underscored the importance of building a social movement alongside government initiatives to effectively tackle these challenges.
Dr Ashraf Hossain, Project Director of SOS Children’s Village Rajshahi, delivered the welcome speech, while Hasan Asif Khan Chowdhury, Director of Youth Development and External Affairs at SOS Children’s Villages International in Bangladesh, gave the opening remarks. Shehan Tawsif, a Lecturer at the Department of Geography and Environmental Studies at Rajshahi University, presented the keynote speech. The session concluded with closing remarks by Mizanur Rahman, In-charge and Programme Officer of SOS Youth Village Rajshahi.
