Detective Branch (DB) of police apprehended two individuals with 155 sacks of cumin illegally transported from India during a drive in the district. The DB police also confiscated the truck used for smuggling the contraband cumin, estimated to be worth approximately Tk 27 lakh 90 thousand.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was conducted on Friday noon in front of Lal Mia Petrol Pump in the Gokulnagar area under Raipura Upazila. Narsingdi District Police Superintendent Abdullah Al-Faruk confirmed the arrest and seizure during the operation.
The individuals arrested have been identified as Aynal Fakir alias Sagar, aged 38, from Sirajganj district, and Md. Shahin Molla, aged 33. Police stopped a truck and, upon searching, discovered 155 sacks of Indian cumin concealed within the vehicle body, with a total weight of 4,650 kilograms.
The seized goods have been confiscated, and legal proceedings are underway
against the detained individuals at Raipura Police Station, as stated by police sources. Police Superintendent Abdullah Al-Faruk mentioned that the cumin was seized because the arrested individuals were unable to present valid documents. They admitted that the goods were smuggled from India.
