Chattogram: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain today emphasized the importance of raising awareness among city residents to maintain cleanliness and beauty in the city, urging them to take responsibility by disposing of garbage in designated areas instead of drains and streets. He pointed out that while the CCC conducts regular cleanliness drives, lasting solutions are impossible without citizen involvement. Dr. Shahadat Hossain made these remarks during an inspection of the city's water flow situation following heavy rainfall.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CCC mayor conducted visits to various parts of the city on Wednesday morning, including Kapasgola, Chawkbazar, Katalganj, Munshipukur Par, Badurtala, and Tupiwalapara areas. During these inspections, two primary causes for water logging in the Katalganj-Buddhist Temple area were identified: the continuous water flow in the Hijra Canal and the large drain connected to it near the Buddhist temple.
In response to these findings, Dr. Shahadat Hossain instructed the Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) to expedite renovation works on the Hijra Canal and directed the CCC conservation department to remove additional soil from the large drain connected to the canal. He stressed the importance of coordinated efforts to achieve a permanent resolution to the city's water logging issues.
Furthermore, Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain highlighted the necessity of collaboration between the CCC and other relevant agencies, such as WASA, CDA, and the Water Development Board, to ensure proper cleaning and maintenance of canals and drains.
