Chattogram: Customs officials at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram seized 1,828 cartons of illegal cigarettes worth approximately Tk 34 lakh. The incident occurred around 10:00 pm on Sunday following the arrival of Air Arabia flight G9-520 from Sharjah, UAE.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, a joint team conducted a search of the luggage belonging to three arriving passengers, uncovering 1,132 cartons of cigarettes. Additionally, 696 cartons were discovered abandoned on a luggage conveyor belt in the arrival area.
The three passengers identified in connection with the seized cigarettes are Md. Mostafa Kamal Sumon from Ramganj in Lakshmipur, Mohammad Abdullah Talukder from Hathazari in Chattogram, and Mohammad Nasir Uddin Talukder from Rangunia in Chattogram.
Airport Public Relations Officer Engineer Mohammad Ibrahim Khalil stated that the seized cigarettes have been handed over to Chattogram Customs House under a Detention Memo (DM).
