Dhaka: Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Adviser Supradip Chakma today urged the affluent society to assist disabled individuals with special needs, encouraging efforts to help them achieve self-reliance. “The well-off people in our society should have the mindset to help the neglected disabled people of this country under the purview of human values and social responsibility. They should come forward to help the disabled people so that they become self-reliant,” he stated.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser made this appeal while speaking at a prize distribution ceremony held at the Khagrachhari Hill District Collectorate Disabled School ground, where he served as the chief guest. During the event, Chakma distributed prizes to winners of sports and cultural competitions conducted on the school premises. Additionally, he provided 50 wheelchairs and supportive devices to disabled and physically challenged individuals free of charge.
The event began with a cultural performance by physically disabled students welcoming the adviser. Chakma personally distributed sweets, chocolates, and cakes among the students. He also assured relevant authorities of his commitment to take necessary steps to increase accumulated savings certificates, aiming to enhance income opportunities for disabled individuals.
Later in the day, Chakma inaugurated a newly constructed four-storey building of the Khagrachhari Hill District Council. The event was attended by several notable figures, including the adviser’s wife Nandita Khisa, Khagrachhari Hill District Council Chairman Jiruna Tripura, CHT Ministry’s Joint Secretary Kongkon Chakma, Khagrachhari Deputy Commissioner ABM Iftekharul Islam Khandaker, Superintendent of Police Arefin Jewel, and Khagrachhari District Council Chief Executive Officer Sumon Chowdhury.
