Dhaka: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus today directed the officials concerned to take all necessary precautionary measures so that no sector of the country is affected after its LDC graduation. ‘We have already taken the decision (over LDC graduation). Now we have to move at full speed,” Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam quoted Prof Yunus as saying. The press secretary was briefing newsmen following Chief Adviser’s meeting with the experts on the LDC graduation. The meeting was held at the Chief Adviser’s Office here today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the nearly two-hour meeting, the Chief Adviser directed all concerned to take steps to ensure maximum benefits as Bangladesh remains confident in smoothly graduating from the LDC status. Prof Yunus mentioned that Bangladesh would be a manufacturing and economic hub in the region and discussed how it could be made this hub more effectively post-graduation.

The press secretary highlighted the Chief Adviser’s emphasis on constant monitoring by a dedicated team to avoid any turbulence in this journey, calling it a critical phase. Briefing reporters, Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Dr. Anisuzzaman Chowdhury said they have discussed all issues and listed precautionary measures. Citing examples of how other relatively weaker countries successfully graduated, he emphasized the need for confidence.

Chowdhury expressed confidence that there would be no problems but affirmed that precautionary measures would be adopted. They are working on establishing a separate strong trade negotiating body as no such trade agency currently exists. In response to a query, the special assistant noted that while economic diplomacy continues, not all aspects can be disclosed due to inherent challenges and opportunities.

He stressed that the graduation process should be viewed positively instead of considering regression. Bangladesh is scheduled to graduate from the Least Developed Country (LDC) category to a developing nation in November 2026.
