London: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus will embark on a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom (UK) this evening, aiming to enhance bilateral relations between Bangladesh and the UK. “A flight of Emirates Airlines carrying the Chief Adviser and his entourage will depart Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport for London at about 7.30 pm today,” Chief Adviser’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder informed BSS.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, acting Foreign Secretary Ruhul Alam Siddique announced on June 4, 2025, that during the visit, the Chief Adviser will have an audience with His Majesty King Charles III and engage in bilateral talks with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer. The agenda includes meetings with UK Foreign Secretary David Lammy and other senior ministers, political leaders, and influential figures from the policy and business communities.
In acknowledgment of his global contributions, Prof Yunus has been nominated by King Charles III for the ‘King Charles III Harmony Award 2025’. This award honors his lifelong dedication to promoting peace, sustainability, and harmony between people and the environment. The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at St James’s Palace in London on June 12.
The King’s Foundation, a UK-based charity established in 1990 by then Prince of Wales, annually bestows this prestigious award on individuals with exemplary achievements in sustainable development and humanitarian causes.
During his visit, Prof Yunus is also expected to engage in courtesy meetings with the Secretaries-General of the Commonwealth and the International Maritime Organization (IMO), underscoring Bangladesh’s broader international engagements. Additionally, as part of his public diplomacy efforts, he will deliver a special speech at Chatham House, the Royal Institute of International Affairs, on June 11.
The Chief Adviser is scheduled to return home on June 14.
