Chattogram:The Chattogram Port Authority (CPA) is set to implement a comprehensive digital transformation of its operations by next December, aiming to convert the port into a fully paperless 'smart port.' This initiative is designed to modernize port operations, reduce transportation costs, ensure transparency, and alleviate traffic congestion around the port's entrances and exits.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the decision follows a recent progress review meeting led by CPA Chairman Rear Admiral S. M. Moniruzzaman. The meeting emphasized the expansion of existing digital services, integration of inter-departmental platforms, and the elimination of manual workflows.

Chattogram Port handled a record 3.4 million TEUs of containers, 138 million tonnes of general cargo, and 4,273 vessels in 2025. This accounts for approximately 92% of Bangladesh's seaborne general cargo and 98% of its containerized trade. CPA Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim noted that achieving true efficiency requires unified digital integration across the complex operations involving importers, exporters, shipping lines, customs, and banks.

The CPA plans to expand digital automation across all operational layers, with 100% of shipping billing already processed online. A new One-Stop Service Center featuring API integration with Sonali Bank PLC has been established, facilitating container and consignee billing through the Terminal Operating System (TOS). Payments can now be made 24/7, and an auto-pull payment system will soon be available to settle unpaid port charges after 72 hours.

The synchronization of the TOS with the National Board of Revenue's ASYCUDA World system in July has digitized import container delivery orders, allowing importers to track documents online. The CPA is also implementing 'Time Slot Management,' online cart tickets, and e-gates to eliminate vehicle tailbacks.

Equipment Interchange Receipts are being synchronized with e-gate passes, and customs auction deliveries, special delivery assignments, and Inland Container Depot workflows are being integrated via NBR and Customs APIs. Digital systems will also extend to bulk cargo handling, and the upcoming Bay Terminal will feature a digital parking ticket system to manage vehicle flow.

The port's 'Port Single Window - CPA Sky' platform, launched earlier this year, provides single-login access to port services and real-time vessel tracking. The TOS dashboard manages up to 65,000 gate entries monthly, with a single-day record of 7,080. The CPA aims to improve operational indexes, reduce turnaround times, accelerate revenue collection, and enhance port management in line with global standards.
