Charfashion: The government is embarking on an ambitious plan to transform Charfashion and Monpura into an eco-friendly tourism hub, capitalizing on the region's natural beauty, agriculture, fisheries, and energy resources. This initiative aims to position the area as one of the country's major economic centers, as discussed by Muhammad Nurul Islam Nayon, Member of Parliament for Bhola-4 (Charfashion-Monpura) constituency and General Secretary of the central committee of Bangladesh Jatiotabadi Jubodal, in an interview with Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Nurul Islam Nayon emphasized that the development of Charfashion and Monpura as a sustainable eco-tourism hub would bolster the local economy and generate new employment opportunities. He highlighted that with successful implementation and local participation, these areas could become premier tourist destinations within the Bhola district and across Bangladesh.
Nurul Islam Nayon identified river erosion as a significant challenge for Bhola district. He noted that resolving this issue would unlock broader development opportunities for the region. He stressed the importance of addressing river erosion through sustainable projects, which would pave the way for Bhola's transformation into an economically promising area.
The lawmaker outlined Bhola's potential, citing its vital gas fields, fertile agricultural land, and viable fishing and aquaculture prospects. He advocated for prioritizing infrastructure development and river erosion prevention to realize these opportunities fully.
Nayon also suggested that declaring Monpura a tourism zone could lead to the establishment of a sustainable eco-tourism center while maintaining environmental balance. This would enhance local incomes, create jobs, and positively impact the national economy.
Discussing transport infrastructure, Nayon stated that Bhola's connection to Barishal is insufficient. He proposed an alternative economic corridor linking Benapole, Jashore, Khulna, Bagerhat, Pirojpur, Jhalakathi, Barishal, Bhola, Lakshmipur, Noakhali, Cumilla, Feni, Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, and Teknaf to drive the southern region's development.
Addressing excessive toll collection at local markets, Nurul Islam Nayon shared that he had received complaints from traders and farmers about high khajna (tax) rates during his election campaign. He assured that excessive taxes at markets in Charfashion and Monpura had been halted, with government revenue continuing appropriately.
According to Nurul Islam Nayon, local farmers and household producers had previously faced harassment when selling agricultural products. However, they now sell without distress, expressing satisfaction with the changes. He also mentioned limited monitoring at cattle markets to ensure transparency and orderly operations.
Looking ahead, Nayon has proposed distributing khas land to landless farmers in Charfashion and Monpura. He believes this would aid self-reliance and boost agricultural production. The proposal has garnered support from several parliament members, and he hopes for government action on the matter.
Regarding political matters, Nayon highlighted Jubo Dal's role over the past 17 years and expressed plans to reorganize the party in line with directives from party Chairman and Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. He emphasized building an efficient, dedicated, and people-oriented organization.
Nurul Islam Nayon reiterated that politics should prioritize people's welfare, highlighting the responsibility of public representatives to protect the rights of small farmers, fishermen, producers, laborers, and traders. He committed to developing a prosperous Charfashion-Monpura, emphasizing river erosion control, agricultural support, tourism development, and modern transport infrastructure.
