Lalmonirhat: Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu, MP, has reiterated the government's commitment to prioritizing women's education and empowerment as a means to achieve sustainable national development. "In addition to expanding women's educational opportunities, various development programmes are being implemented through different government departments to make them economically self-reliant," he stated.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dulu spoke as the chief guest at an event for distributing sewing machines, bicycles, ceiling fans, and sports equipment under the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the 2025-2026 fiscal year, held at the Sadar Upazila Parishad Hallroom on Saturday afternoon. The press release from the Rangpur Regional PID Office detailed the minister's emphasis on the current government's focus on women's empowerment.

Dulu highlighted the historical contributions of former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, who initiated free education for women up to the higher secondary level. He also mentioned that the current Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has plans to expand this initiative to provide free education opportunities for women up to graduation and degree levels.

The government is actively implementing various programmes aimed at making women economically self-reliant and empowered, contributing to the vision of a prosperous Bangladesh with equal participation of women. Additionally, the government is organizing regular sports competitions and distributing sports equipment at the village level to divert youth from drugs and crime towards sports.

During the event, the minister distributed bicycles to 80 underprivileged and talented female students. Furthermore, 120 sewing machines, 262 ceiling fans were allocated to various educational institutions, and sports equipment, including 61 footballs, 61 volleyballs, and five cricket sets, were distributed to various sports and social organizations to enhance women's employment and living standards.

The event was attended by Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Rashedul Haque Prodhan, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Manonita Das, Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Saad Ahmed, leaders of various political parties, beneficiary female students, and local dignitaries.
