Experts seek roadmap for reopening educational institutions

As the Covid infection rate continues to fall, health experts advised the government to immediately take adequate preparations along with a roadmap to reopen the educational institutions gradually.

They think the government should first reopen the universities and then colleges, high schools and primary ones within the next month by bringing teachers and eligible students under the vaccine coverage on a priority basis.

They also called for preparing national Covid prevention and control guidelines based on health sciences to ensure academic activities in the educational institutions with safety even if the virus transmission goes up further.

The government shut the educational institutions on March 17, 2020 after the country had reported its first Covid-19 cases on March 8. Then the closure was extended several times. The latest extension was supposed to continue till August 31.

But the government on Thursday extended the closure of secondary and higher secondary-level educational institutions until September 11.

On Tuesday, Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said educational institutions in the country will be reopened soon if the coronavirus infection rate continues to decline.

Roadmap

Talking to UNB, public health expert MH Chowdhury (Lenin), chairman of the medicine department at the Health and Hope Hospital, said the government needs to prepare a roadmap quickly before reopening the educational institutions based on health sciences.

He said many countries across the world initially witnessed a bit rise in Covid infection after reopening the educational institutions. “As those countries take proper precautionary measures based on health sciences, they didn’t face any such problem. So, we can use the experiences of those countries and make a roadmap for reopening our educational institutions.”

Of the 218 countries in the world affected by Corona, he said, Bangladesh ranks third in terms of long-closure of educational institutions and it is just because of the lack of proper planning.

“We think the government should take appropriate steps to reopen the educational institutions immediately by reviewing the Covid situation all over the country.”

What should universities do

Lenin said most university teachers and many students have already received corona vaccine jabs, paving the way for reopening the universities. “All other university teachers, students and employees can be vaccinated on a priority basis within the next month.”

He said students can be allowed to return to their dormitories by undergoing Covid rapid antigen tests.

For resuming academic activities at the universities, Lenin said, the students of every class can be divided into two sections for maintaining a safe physical distance.

He said both online and offline opportunities should be there for the students to participate in their classes. “Forty to 50 percent of students can be allowed to join online, and the rest can start regular classes in the classrooms. The students who’ll feel unwell or will fall sick can attend classes virtually.”

At the same time, the expert said, it is important to ensure that every student wears a mask and maintains health hygiene strictly.

Besides, he thinks, every university should have a corona test centre for allowing students with Covid symptoms to go under the test quickly. “There should have isolation centres in every university for keeping the virus-infected students and those have symptoms of the virus.”

After the universities, the government can reopen all the colleges ensuring health safety rules.

Vaccinating all primary& high school teachers

Prof Muzaherul Huq, former adviser, South-East Asia region, said he is in favour of reopening the educational institutions immediately by taking well-thought-out plans like other Covid affected countries in the world. “I don’t see any problem in continuing the academic activities by ensuring health safety rules.”

Dr Muzaher said since there is no opportunity for primary and high school students to be vaccinated now, measures can be taken to reopen those educational institutions by bringing all of their teachers under the vaccination coverage.

He said the coronavirus infection rate among children and adolescents is very low as they have a strong immune system. “If we divide the classes of the schools into different shifts, arrange safe sitting arrangements maintaining the physical distance and encourage students to wear masks and wash hands, I think the virus infection won’t go up after reopening the schools. The government can also think of giving a short syllabus under the curricula.”

Providing masks to students

Dr Muzaher said the government can give every student at least two high-quality cloth-made masks free of cost. “No one should be allowed to enter the school compounds and university and college campuses without wearing a mask.”

He said the virus infection will not increase after reopening the educational institutions if the students just wear masks and exercise health hygiene rules.”

“If the government has any hesitation about reopening all the schools, it can reopen some schools and colleges on an experimental basis in some areas where the virus infection rate is low,” the expert said.

Reviewing area-based corona infection

Infectious disease expert Dr Be-Nazir Ahmed, a former director (Disease Control) at the DGHS, said the government now needs to review the area-based corona infection and gradually reopen the educational institutions by ensuring the appropriate defense system. “We need to know where the infection rate is high and where it’s very low as we’ve to take preventive measures considering the infection rates in different areas.”

He said there are many areas, mainly rural ones, where coronary infections rate is very low and there will be no problem if the schools and colleges are reopened there. “But there are some areas where it is still very high and we will have to ensure the health safety rules and preventive measures there very strictly.

“We need to prepare a national infection prevention, control and practice guidelines for opening educational institutions. Every educational institution should have a committee to implement this guideline properly,” he said.

The health and educational experts can jointly prepare the guideline for safely running the educational institutions if even the virus infection grows further.

Liton Das set to return as opener in upcoming T20Is

Right-handed wicketkeeper-batsman Liton Das is all set to return to the national team as the opening batsman in the upcoming T20Is series against New Zealand.

Bangladesh national cricket team batting consultant Ashwell Prince hinted Liton’s comeback as an opener on Saturday.

Liton missed Bangladesh’s home series against Australia that the hosts won 4-1.

Bangladesh played 11 T20Is in the last 12 months, and on only one occasion, the opening partnership passed the 100-run mark. On eight occasions, the opening stand ended before scoring 20 runs.

This figure is more than enough to prove Bangladesh’s struggle at the top of the order in T20Is. Prince believes the scene could change if Liton can perform well.

“Personally I am not really concerned about the opening batsmen. I think we had one or two good partnerships in Zimbabwe but conditions were tough against Australia. It is not easy to score boundaries frequently as you would in pitches where the ball is coming on,” Prince told the media in a virtual press conference.

“Adapting to the conditions is important. The partnership would be important. I think we have a strong competition in the opening position. I am sure Liton Das will get an opportunity in this position as well,” he added.

Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Naim paired up in eight matches out of the last 11 matches. Naim was slightly better, but Soumya failed to prove his mettle at the top order. In his last eight T20Is, Soumya failed to reach a two-digit score on five occasions. His continuous failure has left the Bangladesh team management worried.

Tamim Iqbal could be in contention as an opening batsman of Bangladesh in T20Is, but the left-handed batsman has been suffering from a knee injury that prevented him from taking part in the Australia series.

Along with Liton, Mushfiqur Rahim is also set to make a comeback in the New Zealand series. He was also out of action during Bangladesh’s series against Australia.

“Return of Liton Das and Mushfiqur is vitally important for the team. Their return adds to the experience and communication between the more experienced and younger guys. The team has a good combination of experienced players and very exciting youthful players,” Prince further told the media.

Prince believed a good combination of experience and youthfulness will help Bangladesh to become a tough team to beat in T20Is.

“What really excites me about this Bangladesh team is that we have a good mix of experienced players and young players. Not just in the batting department, but also in the bowling department,” Prince added.

“We have some Under-19 World Cup winners, so they are bringing youthfulness and experience of being successful in a big tournament. It really feels as though there’s a good connection between experience and youthfulness. There’s a good quality in every department – fast bowling, spin bowling and batting,” he further told the media.

The series will kick off on September 1 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. All other matches will be played at the same venue on September 3, 5, 8 and 10 respectively.

Bangladesh played a total of 10 T20Is against New Zealand but failed to win any of them. This series came as a good chance for the Tigers to open a new chapter in this series as it’s taking place at the home ground.

Govt kept schools, colleges closed out of fear of movement: BNP

BNP on Saturday alleged that the government has kept educational institutions shut for a long time only to prevent a possible movement instead of protecting students from Covid-19.

Speaking at a press conference at BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office on the outcome of Friday’s virtual meeting of their party’s standing committee, he called upon the government to resume academic activities in the all educational institutions immediately maintaining health safety rules.

He also demanded the government bring the students up to the age of 18 under the Covid vaccine coverage.

About Awami League General Secretary Obaidul Quader’s comment that evil forces are taking preparations to create chaos after the reopening of universities, Fakhrul said, “His (Quader’s) remark has exposed that the educational institutions have been kept closed to avoid a movement, not to protect the health of students.”

Referring to a recent report published by Unicef, he said Bangladesh ranks second in the world in terms of the closure of educational institutions at all levels due to Covid -19. “Over four crores of students from pre-primary to higher-education levels have been affected as a result of prolonged closure.”

The BNP leader alleged that the government has raised a question about Ziaur Rahman’s grave at Chandrima Udyan to divert people’s attention to a different direction from its failures and misdeeds.

He said Zia was buried at Chandrima Udyan following a janaza joined by lakhs of people. “The then Army Chief Ershad (HM Ershad) himself carried his (Zia’s) body.”

Fakhrul said Awami League has been talking about such unnecessary issues as it has got politically ‘bankrupt’.

“Why don’t they come to the main points? They don’t talk about holding a credible election strengthening the democratic institutions and restoring the rights of people, including the right to vote,” he observed.

The BNP leader urged the government to inform people about what it has done to tackle Covid, protect people’s lives and livelihoods and help the day- labourers.

He said people are getting poorer, but those who belong to Awami League are getting richer and they are siphoning off money abroad. “Social instability and anti-social activities have been growing as no institutions are working properly in the country. It’s going to be a failed state.”

On Thursday, the Prime minister said, “BNP engaged in fights at Chandrima Udyan. Doesn’t the BNP know that there’s no grave or body of Zia, or Zia is not there? They know it very well! If so, why do they stage the drama? Khaleda Zia is also aware of it.”

While addressing a programme virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban, Sheikh Hasina also said whether Khaleda Zia or Tarique Zia could claim that they saw Zia’s body in the box (which was brought from Chattogram) as a bullet-hit body can easily be recognised. “No one saw it as there was no body (of Zia) in the box,” she said.

Reacting to her remarks, Fakhrul said no person who has integrity and good taste can make such comments. “Her remarks are indecent, disgusting, and nothing but lies.”

He said the Prime Minister also hurt the religious sentiment of Muslims by raising a question about late Zia’s body and grave. “People didn’t take it easily as Ziaur Rahman is in their hearts.”

Cristiano Ronaldo has one year left at Juventas, although he was always keen on leaving the Italian giant this season. Cristiano’s agent Jorge Mendes, had been in touch with European heavyweights in order to complete the move before the transfer deadline. Initially, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain were allegedly interested in luring him away from Juventas. However, everything has changed dramatically on Friday (August 27). Manchester United joined the race and they have eventually reached an agreement with Juventas to bring Cristiano to Old Trafford for the second time. At Manchester United, Cristiano Ronaldo’s prime objective would be to form solid attacking combination with Edison Cavani and Marcus Rashford. Ronaldo rose to prominence as a left-winger in his first term (2003-2009) at Manchester United. Though he has gradually evolved into a box-to-box forward whose primary goal is to find the net.

He played up front alongside Karim Benzema in his last five/six years stint at Real Madrid and scored a lot of goals. He also played as a striker for Juventus for the last three seasons, assisting on as many goals as he could. Therefore, he may not play as a winger for Manchester United this term since that position is well suited to new sensation Jadon Sancho.

Apart from his footballing ability, Ronaldo’s overall knowledge and experience of the game would be crucial in rejuvenating the team. Cristiano Ronaldo’s presence in Manchester United’s lineup would make the team much more balanced and competitive.

Ronaldo has five Champions League titles to his name and he understands just what means to compete in Europe’s most prestigious club competition. His presence will be vital, especially as the tournament progresses.

Manchester United are reportedly interested in bringing Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Tripper to Old Trafford before the transfer window ends on August 31. They will become one of the hot favorites to win the Premier League this season if they can bring in this experienced player.

Manchester United have sent a message to their opponents by including Cristiano Ronaldo and some quality players from various European clubs, indicating that they are ready for any challenge this season. The Red Devils will surely be able to reclaim their former glory if the players give it their best throughout the season.

Cristiano Ronaldo has a long list of accomplishments to his name, both at the club level and for his nation. But it’s at the club level that he’s had the most success.

Cristiano Ronaldo made his professional debut for Sporting CP against Braga on September 29, 2002. He has won 31 titles and scored 674 goals in 897 club appearances during his 19-year professional career.

Ronaldo has won 1 championship with Sporting CP, 9 trophies with Manchester United, 16 with Real Madrid, and 5 with Juventus. He has won the most Champions League titles (4) with Los Blancos. Cristiano has broken several records in his career at the club level and he is only the second player to have won five Ballon d’Or honors. Ronaldo has record 134 goals and 42 assists In the Champions League.

Cristiano Ronaldo has won two major titles with the Portugal national team. He won the UEFA European Championship in 2016 and the UEFA Nations League in June 2019. Ronaldo has 179 caps for Portugal and he is tied for the most international goals with Ali Daei (109). He also has the most goals in the European Championship (14).

Verdict

Manchester United have become one of the hot favorites to win the 2021/2022 Premier League following their big signings in the summer transfer window 2021. Cristiano’s amazing career accomplishments show that he is a true winner who can help Manchester United reclaim their glory days. Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba, Edison Cavani, Jadon Sancho, Bruno Fernandes, and Cristiano Ronaldo will lead the Man United attack this season. Their experience will be vital if Manchester United are to win the Premier League for the first time in nine years. The Red Devils have a good chance of winning the Champions League as well if they can keep their momentum in the second half of the season.

BNP knows it very well Zia’s body not there at Chandrima Udyan: PM

Referring to the recent clashes between BNP men and police at Chandrima Udyan, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday wondered why BNP activists engage in fights despite knowing it very well that Ziaur Rahman’s body is not there.

“BNP engaged in fights at Chandrima Udyan. Doesn’t the BNP know that there’s no grave or body of Zia, or Zia is not there? They know it very well! If so, why do they stage the drama? Khaleda Zia is also aware of it,” she said while addressing a programme virtually from her official residence Ganobhaban.

Awami League (AL) Dhaka city north and south units jointly organised the memorial meeting at AL’s Bangabandhu Avenue central office on the occasion of National Mourning Day.

Hasina said whether Khaleda Zia or Tarique Zia could claim that they saw Zia’s body in the box (which was brought from Chattogram) as a bullet-hit body can easily be recognised. “No one saw it as there was no body (of Zia) in the box,” she said.

The AL President said she heard from HM Ershad that there was a body with a combat dress in the box. “Don’t BNP men know that the President can’t wear a combat dress? Even then they haven’t given up the habit of engaging in clashes over there,” she said.

Hasina, the eldest daughter of Bangabandhu, said the objectives of August 15 conspirators were to make Bangladesh a failed state, thwart the achievements of the (country’s) independence and destroy the ideals of the Liberation War.

She said the name of Bangabandhu that the conspirators erased from the history for 21 years is now internationally recognised. “Now no one can erase the name anymore…. The history they had distorted is now very clear to people,” she added.

Reiterating that Ziaur Rahman and Khondaker Mostaq were the masterminds of the August 15 carnage, she said Bangabandhu made Ziaur Rahman the deputy army chief, bringing him from Cumilla Cantonment in order to keep his family unbroken.

She said Ziaur Rahman never believed in the existence of Bangladesh. “It’s true. No such history can be heard that Ziaur Rahman fought in any field or anywhere.”

The PM said the AL Chattogram leaders, including Mosharraf Hossain MP, named him ‘Mr Retreat’ at that time as he used to stay three miles away from any fighting spot.

Hasina said Mostaq became President depending on Ziaur Rahman but could not cling to power for a long time as Mir Jafar could not. “All use the traitors, but no one trusts them. Ziaur Rahman did exactly the same thing, and Mostaq had to step down even before completing three months in power,” she said.

In her emotion-choked voice, the PM said she got the love and affection from AL leaders and activists and the people of Bangladesh when she returned home in 1981 after losing her family members. “So, AL is my family and Bangladesh is my family… I don’t have any fear of death or any desire,” she said.

Hasina thanked the AL leaders and activists for helping people during the Covid-19 pandemic. “It’s the Awami League leaders and activists who are standing beside people,” she said.

AL Dhaka city north unit Sheikh Bazlur Rahman presided over the discussion meeting moderated by its general secretary SM Mannan Kachi.

AL Dhaka city south unit president Abu Ahmed Mannafi, general secretary Humayun Kabir, vice president Nurul Amin MP, joint general secretary Morshed Kamal and organising secretary Akter Hossain, and AL Dhaka city north unit vice president Kader Khan, joint general secretary Matiur Rahman Matin and organising secretary Azizul Haque Rana spoke at the function.

Ai and Future of Content Writing: Will Artificial Intelligence replace writers?

Over the past few years, machine learning and artificial intelligence specialists have been working on algorithms. These algorithms are proficient enough to write articles and different other forms of content, maintaining a level of quality that was previously possible only by human writers. As such technologies progress, mankind will be closer to a day when machines can create content better than humans. But how near are we to the days when machine writers will outperform humans? Or are the days of human writers already over? Or, can AI replace the human writers? Stay with us to get your answers.

What is an Ai Writer

Artificial intelligence is the effort to replicate human intelligence in machines. It is a section of computer science that studies the works on the possibility of making machines think and work like a human. Ai gives machines the ability to do what people can do but in less time and in much better quality.

An Ai writer researches and writes content using its algorithm. The practice of using them for daily content creation has already begun putting a question on the future of content writing as a professional endeavor.

Writing Process of Ai Writers

Technologies like deep learning and also natural language processing are two different segments of Ai. Combined, these technologies can search infinite databases for specific information to write.

Deep learning technology mimics the way the human brain handles data and various patterns. Natural language processing attempts to evaluate and use languages the way the human brain does. To produce articles and news, AI writing systems learn the principles of writing and different sentence structures.

Limitations of Ai Writing System

Like every applied branch of studies, Ai technology is evolving. So are the Ai writing machines. However, there are some key aspects where they haven’t become proficient enough yet. Based on the nature of these aspects, Ai technology still has a far way to go to master all of them.

Natural Language Generation

Natural language generation (NLG) is one of the biggest challenges in AI writing. Recently, the NLG process has gone through a development reflected in a number of applications. Among them, the most visible is the advent of digital assistants.

Assistants like Alexa and Siri have grown very effectively at learning to comprehend basic human speech and responding to it, thanks to the advancement in natural language recognition. However, learning to recognize human language and attempting to write it are two totally different challenges, and training an algorithm to write in an intelligible manner is quite difficult.

Information Analysis

An AI writing algorithm must understand a topic before it produces an article on that. Ai still lacks a conscious learning and comprehension ability. To attain these abilities, the algorithm must learn to seek, ingest, evaluate, and reprocess data from various sources to generate reliable stuff.

This is easy in certain situations; algorithms can quickly search up instant stock values and make reports on them. It’s nearly difficult in others; computers can’t assess the happenings of a blurry film. Nor it can still tell the data it is providing is reliable or not.

Creative Ideas

Almost all types of writing rely on creativity, originality. Authors must invent new ideas or viewpoints and convey them to the readers in some engaging way. The spark of creativity that triggers new ideas has yet to be developed in computers. It’s unclear how a coder might go about replicating this aspect of human thought. Though none can tell if it’s ever possible, we are certainly sure that Ai still hasn’t made it at this point.

Capabilities of Ai Writers

AI is particularly effective at activities that are mostly predictable, repetitive, and also objectively quantifiable. In some cases, an AI system can do a specific task or solve a basic problem very rapidly and at scales that humans cannot reach. In terms of writing, AI systems find predictable, and patterned writing is trivially easy for Ai. They can write articles of this level a thousand times faster than a human writer.

Another significant benefit of Ai technology is its capacity to learn, understand and adapt, which might drive it among new terrains when it comes to patterned writing. Over time, these algorithms might be trained to judge the quality or rhetoric of the output they give based on a variety of criteria. Algorithms, given enough effort, time, and money, might learn to produce considerably more sophisticated, arguably artistic works.

Why Can’t Ai Replace Professional Content Writers

Today’s content market is highly competitive, where audiences want to be emotionally engaged and interact with the information they are getting. They want to be moved. Ai still hasn’t achieved that ability to bridge the vacuum between generating text according to the expectation of the readers. It still can’t, and won’t, for an unspecified long time.

Professional content writers outperform Ai in selecting just the accurate and proper words that resonate with other people due to the complexity of human cognition and emotion. Every piece of content must help readers establish connections. Ai writing technology cannot compete with a real human with emotions, skills, experiences, and knowledge of a specific subject matter.

Ai writers still lack these key criteria that are must-have in a content writer:

Understanding and imposing unique tone: Different media talks in different tones. A film critique will never narrate his review on a film the way a sport critique narrated a game.

Using compelling synonyms: Choosing the appropriate synonym to reflect the most appropriate sense can’t be made with an Ai writer. Only humans have such subtility and sharpness to feel out the proper word.

Bring authenticity: Ai writers can’t write contents that will make a difference and bring new ideas to the world. It can’t speak for a company according to the brand value and tone.

Understanding audience: Human writers can empathize with the pain point of their audiences and write from that level which will never be possible for an Ai writer.
