Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has extended his heartfelt greetings and congratulations to the members of the Bangladesh Coast Guard (BCG) on the occasion of its 31st founding anniversary, which will be celebrated tomorrow. He expressed his hope that the members of the BCG will continue to perform their duties with integrity, discipline, professionalism, and patriotism.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Yunus praised the BCG for becoming a symbol of trust among coastal communities. He expressed his hope that the BCG’s contributions to strengthening maritime security and upholding national dignity will become more extensive and effective in the future.

Established in 1995 with the motto ‘Guardian at Sea’, the BCG is dedicated to protecting the maritime economy and ensuring the safety of coastal residents. Initially operating with limited resources, the BCG has grown into a full-fledged force by increasing its capacity, acquiring strategic skills, and achieving technological excellence.

The BCG plays a crucial role in ensuring security at sea, combating smuggling and human trafficking, preventing drug trafficking, conserving fish resources, implementing sanctuaries, and protecting Jatka and Hilsa. Beyond their regular duties, the BCG provides relief and rescue services during natural disasters and emergencies, such as cyclones, floods, and tidal waves, with speed and professionalism.

Professor Yunus also expressed gratitude to the coast guard for its active participation in improving the law and order situation in the country following the July Uprising and for ensuring the safety of the people. He wished success for all the programs undertaken by the BCG in celebration of their anniversary.
