Dhaka: Chief Advisor Professor Muhammad Yunus has advocated for the establishment of a high-level committee to manage all aspects of the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha. The directive aims to address fair pricing of sacrificial animal rawhides, proper animal transportation, waste management, and related issues.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the announcement was made during a meeting at the State Guest House Jamuna, as reported by CA’s Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder. Attendees included Industries Adviser Adilur Rahman Khan, Road Transport and Bridges Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Environment, Forests and Climate Change Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, and Information Adviser Mahfuj Alam.
Chief Advisor Yunus highlighted the longstanding issue of unfair rawhide pricing, which adversely affects the poorer segments of society who rely on the sale proceeds. He emphasized the need to dismantle any syndicate controlling rawhide prices to ensure fair compensation for sellers.
Prof Yunus also urged humane treatment of sacrificial animals during transportation and their sale in cattle markets. Additionally, he stressed the significance of utilizing effluent treatment plants in rawhide processing to mitigate environmental impact.
To implement these directives, Prof Yunus has ordered the formation of a high-level committee led by Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin. The committee will comprise various advisers, including Fisheries and Livestock Adviser Farida Akhter, alongside representatives from religious institutions and the leather industry.
