Three persons, including the owners of the building, have been arrested in a case filed in connection with Tuesday's explosion at a seven-storey building in the city's Gulistan area that claimed so far 22 lives.

The arrestees are building owners - Md Wahidur Rahman and his brother Matiur Rahman, and shop owner Abdul Motaleb Mintu, Additional Deputy Commissioner (media wing) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) KN Roy Niyoti told BSS.

He said the two brothers were arrested for constructing the building without complying with the relevant laws and rules, erecting shops at the space designated for a sewerage line and showing negligence in servicing air-conditioners.

Motaleb was arrested as he used to run his sanitary shop at the building occupying open space, said the police official.

Wahidur Rahman and his brother Matiur Rahman were detained from the Fulbaria area for interrogation on Tuesday after the incident while Motaleb was detained at night on the same day.

Police on Wednesday filed an unnatural death case over the incident and they were later shown arrested in connection with the case due to their negligence in the case.

The explosion took place at around 4:45 pm at the seven-storey building, mostly housing sanitary hardware stores alongside some private offices, rocking the entire area and claiming the lives of 22 people.
