Dhaka: Director (Administration and Common Service) of Bangladesh Rice Research Institute (BRRI) Dr Md Abdul Latif received the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences (BAS) Gold Medal for his significant contributions to the field of biological sciences. The award, known as the BAS-National Professor Dr M Innas Ali Memorial Gold Medal Award 2021, was presented to him at a ceremony held at the National Science and Technology Complex in Agargaon. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the award ceremony was presided over by the President of BAS, Emeritus Professor Dr A K Azad Chowdhury. Dr M Zahid Hasan, Eugene Higgins Professor of Physics at Princeton University, USA, graced the event as the chief guest, while BAS Secretary Prof Dr Haseena Khan was also in attendance. Dr Md Abdul Latif, a prominent agricultural scientist born in Chowkibari village of Dhanut upazila in Bogra district, has had an illustrious academic and professional career. He completed his BSc (Ag) Hons degree in 1987 from Bangladesh Agricultural University and earned a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Putra Malaysia in 2001. He is currently a senior scientist within the National Agricultural Research System (NARS) in Bangladesh. Dr Latif's career includes a post-doctoral research tenure at the University of Putra Malaysia from 2010 to January 2012, and a senior research fellowship at the same university from May 2012 to 2014. His prolific research output includes 174 published papers in various esteemed journals both domestically and internationally.
