Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today asserted that those aligned with fascists are advocating for a special method in the upcoming national parliamentary election. He emphasized the potential consequences of such demands, warning that the absence of a proper election could lead to the resurgence of fascism in the country and pose a significant threat if communal forces gain influence.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Gayeshwar made these comments while serving as the chief guest at a view-exchange meeting and gift distribution program with various Hindu Puja committees in the Dhaka-7 constituency, marking the Sharadiya Durga Utsav-2025 at the Kellar Mor Shawshan Ghat, near the Lalbagh Model School and College. He highlighted the critical nature of the upcoming national election, stating that despite ongoing discussions about the election, campaigning efforts are in full swing. He expressed concerns about a conspiracy to create election uncertainty by implementing the Proportional Representation (PR) system, which he claimed is not well understood.
Gayeshwar further elaborated that public agitation is rising due to the anticipated support for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy’ symbol. He pointed out that in some areas, there is often only one candidate from a single party, and emphasized the importance of unified campaigning for the ‘Sheaf of Paddy.’ Failure to do so, he warned, could lead to voter confusion and potentially jeopardize electoral success.
He also cautioned against potential disruptions during the Durga Puja celebrations, urging vigilance among BNP activists to protect the Puja mandaps. The event was presided over by former Joint Convener of the Dhaka Mohanagar South BNP, Mosharraf Hossain Khokon, and featured speeches from Executive President of Gono Forum Subrata Chowdhury, BNP Assistant Youth Affairs Secretary Mir Newaz Ali, Joint Convener of Dhaka Mohanagar South BNP Haji Monir Hossain, member Anwar Parvez Badal, and former Chatra Dal leaders Riaz Uddin Ahmed Moni and Robin Hossain.
