BGB-BSF flag meeting held on Lalmonirhat border

RANGPUR, March 20, 2017 (BSS) - A Battalion Commander level flag meeting between Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and Indian Border Security Force (BSF) was held today on Moghalhat border under Sadar upazila in Lalmonirhat district.

The BGB-sponsored flag meeting was arranged inside Bangladesh territory near boundary pillar no 927/6S to discuss the issue of construction of the river protection works by Bangladesh side within 150 yards from the zero line, BGB sources said.

Director of Lalmonirhat 15 BGB Battalion Lieutenant Colonel Golam Morshed led the six-member Bangladesh delegation while Deputy Commandant of 124 BSF Battalion Kamal Bhagat led the five-member Indian delegation in the meeting.

After the meeting, Lieutenant Colonel Golam Morshed told local reporters that the meeting was held in a very cordial and cooperative atmosphere.

The meeting elaborately discussed the issue of temporarily halting the ongoing river protection works by the Dharla riverside at Moghalhat border within 150 yards from the zero line inside Bangladesh territory following BSF protest.

"After discussion on the issue, the BSF officials committed that they would raise the matter before their higher authorities so that the Bangladesh side could complete the river protection works as soon as possible," Lieutenant Colonel Golam Morshed said.

Besides, both sides agreed to take necessary steps for stopping cross-border smuggling, illegal trespassing of the international border by citizens of either country, trafficking of drugs, women and children and renovation of the boundary pillars, he added.
