Dhaka: Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur (BRUR) Vice-Chancellor Prof. Md. Showkat Ali emphasized the importance of celebrating Pahela Baishakh, the first day of the Bengali New Year, as integral to the Bengali culture, tradition, and identity. “We must preserve our Bengali heritage to build a prosperous, inclusive Bangladesh, free from all forms of discrimination,” he stated during his visit to the Baishakhi Mela stalls set up by various departments in front of the academic building. Prof. Ali took the opportunity to exchange new year greetings with teachers and students.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Vice-Chancellor earlier inaugurated the Borshoboron Ananda Shobhajatra from the university’s south gate. The procession, featuring traditional Baishakhi songs and instruments, made its way through key points of the campus, marking the festive spirit of the occasion.
The celebrations continued with a cultural program held at the Media Complex in the afternoon. Additionally, special meals were arranged for students residing in the university’s three residential halls.
In anticipation of the Bengali New Year 1432, the university hosted a kite festival on April 13 at the football playground as part of the Chaitra Sangkranti observances, thus launching two days of festive events.
