Dhaka: Civil Aviation and Tourism Adviser Sheikh Bashir Uddin this evening visited the site of the fire that broke out at the Cargo Village of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport (HSIA) in Dhaka, assuring that all-out efforts are underway to resume flight operations as soon as possible.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Bashir expressed confidence in reopening the airport at the earliest. He informed reporters that flight operations are currently suspended, and efforts are being made to restore services by tonight if possible. The adviser noted that the fire had largely been brought under control due to coordinated efforts by the Fire Service, armed forces, and other agencies. Authorities are now concentrating on restoring normal operations.
Bashir emphasized the immediate goal of restarting airport operations quickly and in an orderly manner, with consultations ongoing among all relevant stakeholders to maintain airport functionality and safety. He sought prayers from the nation to overcome the situation smoothly, expressing hope for the blessings of Almighty Allah to ease the task of bringing the airport back to full operation soon.
The adviser informed that the blaze was confined to the import cargo area, while the export cargo section remained completely safe. He announced that a high-level committee will be formed to assess the extent of damage and conduct a thorough investigation. Bashir also mentioned that several firefighters sustained injuries while working to contain the blaze and are receiving medical treatment. Although the situation is under control, he noted that some isolated pockets of fire remain and that he is personally monitoring the efforts on the ground.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to restoring full airport operations at the earliest possible time.
