Dhaka: State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humaiun Kobir on Monday announced that Bangladesh's foreign policy is undergoing a significant transformation, with the government concentrating on enhancing bilateral and multilateral relations to elevate the country's global visibility and influence.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Kobir addressed reporters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on his first working day as the State Minister. He stated that his new role is a continuation of his previous work as the Prime Minister's Adviser on Foreign Affairs. Kobir emphasized that the foreign policy strategy has been laid out over the past six months, providing a robust foundation for future engagements.
Kobir elaborated on the government's intention to infuse substantial content into Bangladesh's bilateral relationships, aspiring to elevate the country's visibility and influence to unprecedented levels. Having worked with senior officials at the Foreign Ministry, Kobir expressed confidence in the Ministry's capacity to advance Bangladesh's international standing.
When questioned about his citizenship and social media discussions regarding his British citizenship, Kobir firmly responded, affirming his identity as Bangladeshi. He dismissed concerns about his nationality and urged unity among media, citizens, and political leaders to advance national interests.
Addressing inquiries about the Mecca Defense Pact, Kobir confirmed Bangladesh's interest, noting the growing international recognition of the country, especially among stakeholders in the Middle East and the Muslim world. He highlighted the special significance of Mecca for Bangladeshis, reflecting on its deep-rooted place in their hearts.
Kobir concluded by encouraging reporters to focus on substantive issues related to his ministry, emphasizing the importance of unity and collaboration in taking Bangladesh forward.
