Dhaka: The bodies of two children who went missing from their homes in Nalitabari upazila of Sherpur were recovered from a pond early Monday, around 14.5 hours later.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the bodies were recovered around 2:30am in Madhya Nakshi village of Koloshpar Union, as confirmed by police and local sources. The deceased were identified as Rohan Mia, 7, son of Hazrat Ali, and Ismail Hossain, 6, son of Ebadul Islam, both from the same village.
The two children reportedly left their homes around noon on Sunday. After an extensive search by their families, they could not be located. Eventually, locals discovered the children's bodies floating in a nearby pond around 2:30am and subsequently recovered them.
Local residents noted that Rohan and Ismail had a keen interest in fishing. Given that they were not proficient swimmers, locals suspect that the children may have drowned while attempting to fish in the pond.
Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Nalitabari Police Station, stated that legal proceedings were underway in this regard.
