Seoul: The Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul, along with the Bangladesh Semiconductor Industry Association (BSIA), orchestrated a two-day roadshow in South Korea. The event focused on integrating Bangladesh into the global semiconductor value chain through international collaboration, talent development, and advanced packaging initiatives.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the roadshow began on May 12, featuring one-to-one meetings with Korean semiconductor design houses and the Korea Semiconductor Industry Association (KSIA). A delegation of 12 members, led by MA Jabbar, President of BSIA, traveled to South Korea to participate in the event.

The highlight of the roadshow was a banquet reception at the DoubleTree by Hilton Pangyo hotel in Seoul. Bangladesh’s Ambassador to South Korea, Toufiq Islam Shatil, delivered the welcome remarks, emphasizing the potential for joint collaboration between the semiconductor industries of Bangladesh and South Korea. He outlined the Asian Development Bank-proposed $79 billion economic corridor from Teknaf to Tetulia as a future hub for high-tech industrialization, creating an ecosystem conducive to semiconductor manufacturing and advanced packaging.

BSIA President Jabbar stressed the importance of entering the semiconductor ecosystem by focusing on strategic pathways such as design verification, embedded systems, and advanced packaging. The technical sessions included insights on ‘Silicon River’ initiatives from Prof Muhammad Mustafa Hussain of Purdue University, USA, and capabilities overviews from seven leading BSIA member companies.

On the final day, the BSIA delegation engaged with high officials from various semiconductor and research organizations, including the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), SK Hynix, and others. A significant milestone was achieved with the signing of a Letter of Intent between KAIST Global Commercialization Center, Center of Research Excellence on Semiconductor Technology, and BSIA. This agreement aims to foster joint research, talent development, and capacity building in the semiconductor sector.

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Seoul remains committed to supporting these initiatives, positioning the nation as a global high-tech destination.
