DHAKA: Officials from Bangladesh and Malaysia have announced their commitment to collaborate on expanding the market for Halal products and developing the Halal ecosystem. This initiative was discussed during a meeting involving the Islamic Foundation’s Halal Certification Department, a delegation from Serunai Malaysia, and the Islamic Development Bank at the Islamic Foundation’s head office.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was inaugurated by Md Saiful Islam, Director General of the Islamic Foundation, and focused on the ‘Reverse Linkage Project’ aimed at developing the ‘Diagnostic Mission Halal Ecosystem’ between Bangladesh and Malaysia. The project seeks to enhance the existing Halal ecosystem in Bangladesh and expand the Halal market through knowledge and technology exchange, as well as cooperation opportunities in trade and investment between the two nations.
Speakers at the meeting emphasized that the project is expected to play a significant role in improving the Islamic Foundati
on’s efficiency in issuing Halal certificates. They also highlighted the potential of the reverse linkage project to accelerate the development of the Halal ecosystem through international collaboration.
The meeting featured a keynote presentation by Dr Md Abu Saleh Patwary, Deputy Director of the Halal Certification Department of the Islamic Foundation. Attendees included Mohd Jabal and Nabil Zarini from the Serunai Halal Centre of Excellence, along with representatives from Bangladesh’s Ministry of Religious Affairs, Ministry of Commerce, Ministry of Food, Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, Economic Relations Division, National Board of Revenue, Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, Islami Bank Bangladesh, and the Islamic Foundation.
