DHAKA: Textiles and Jute Adviser SK Bashir Uddin issued a stark warning today to traders hoarding jute, cautioning that severe measures will be taken against those attempting to create an artificial crisis in the jute sector. This announcement comes as concerns rise over potential market disruptions caused by stockpiling activities.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the adviser emphasized the government’s readiness to address any market manipulations while speaking at the inauguration of the Jute Diversification Promotion Centre (JDPC). The event, held at the JDPC auditorium in Farmgate, marked the commencement of a six-day jute fair and exhibition. The ceremony was presided over by Md. Abdur Rauf, Secretary of the Textiles and Jute Ministry, with Executive Director of JDPC Zinat Ara among the speakers.

Adviser Bashir Uddin highlighted the need for jute producers to be attentive to both local and international consumer demands, urging them to produce high-quality jute and jute products. He stressed
the significance of jute to the nation’s economy and the necessity of maintaining the sector’s health by ensuring product quality. Additionally, he encouraged the public to opt for jute-made goods instead of polythene shopping bags to protect the environment.

The adviser also criticized the previous Awami League government, attributing the decline of the jute sector to their policies. He asserted that the current government is making significant efforts to revive the industry and improve the livelihoods of those employed within it.
