Dhaka:Science and Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam emphasized that Bangladesh should not just consume foreign technology but also become a producer and exporter through its innovation and research capabilities.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Anam highlighted the government's efforts to establish the 'Made in Bangladesh' brand in artificial intelligence, semiconductor design, software, and digital services on the global stage. He noted this during the 'Bangladesh ICT and Innovation Awards-2026' at BRAC University in Dhaka.
Anam stressed the importance of transforming Bangladesh into a knowledge-based economy, driven by young people's innovations. The government aims to position Bangladesh as a leading digital economy within the next five years.
The 'Bangladesh ICT and Innovation Awards' received 355 project submissions, out of which the Bangladesh ICT and Innovation Network recognized 44 as the best innovations. The awards were given under the theme 'Recognising Innovation, Inspiring Transformation'.
Furthermore, Anam assured that the government would support young innovators in research, capital investment, and policy development. He called for showcasing Bangladesh's technological capabilities internationally.
State Minister for Planning Zonayed Abdur Rahim Saki and other dignitaries also emphasized the need for a collaborative platform among the government, business sector, and academia to foster economic development through innovation.
The event concluded with a call to further develop an innovation-friendly ecosystem in Bangladesh to support and market new technologies.
