Darwin: The Bangladesh A team started their Australia tour on a positive note by defeating DIXI by 37 runs in a practice game held in Darwin. The visitors opted to bat first and set a strong foundation, posting 181-5 on the scoreboard.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Afif Hossain played a crucial role in anchoring the innings with a 43 from 33 balls, following an aggressive start from opener Naim Sheikh, who scored 36 off 29 balls. After Afif’s departure, skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan, Yasir Chowdhury, and Mrittunjay Chowdhury contributed with unbeaten scores of 13, 30, and 18 respectively, ensuring a competitive total for the team.
In response, the local DIXI team began their chase with promise but faltered as the innings progressed, ending at 144-5 within the allotted 20 overs. Yaseen Muntasir stood out with 26 off 12 balls, while Jagadeswara Koduru added 25 to the tally. Bangladesh A’s bowling attack was spearheaded by Mahfuzur Rahman Rabby, who claimed 2-38, supported by Rakibul Hasan with 2-5, and Saif Hasan who took the remaining wicket.
Bangladesh A is set to participate in the Top End T20 series for the second time and will commence their campaign against Pakistan Shaheens on August 14. The tournament will also feature the Nepal national team and four teams from the Australian Big Bash League.
