Bagerhat: The Bagerhat district administration has organized a six-day programme to commemorate the Independence and National Day with respect and solemn observance.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the events will unfold from March 20 to March 26, focusing on March 25 Genocide Day and the Great Independence and National Day.
The initiative includes reminiscence and discussion meetings on the March 25 Genocide and the historic Liberation War. These events will feature participation from notable figures and heroic freedom fighters across all educational institutions, including schools, colleges, madrasas, and technical institutes in the district. Additionally, a variety of competitions such as writing, recitation, and painting will take place, alongside exhibitions of rare photographs and documentaries and film screenings centered on the Liberation War.
On March 25, special prayers will be held at various religious sites and educational institutions to honor the martyrs, accompanied by a symbolic blackout for one minute at 10:30 pm. March 26 will begin with a 31-gun salute, and the national flag will be raised at all government and private establishments. Wreaths will be laid at the Martyred Freedom Fighters’ Memorial, and the national anthem will be performed at Bagerhat District Stadium, led by the Deputy Commissioner. The day will also feature a student rally, parade, and inspection ceremony.
A reception and discussion meeting for the families of freedom fighters and martyrs is scheduled at the Zila Parishad Auditorium. The afternoon will see a friendly football match, followed by special prayers for national peace and prosperity and the souls of the Liberation War martyrs. Improved meals will be provided at government hospitals, prisons, rehabilitation centers, and other service institutions in the district.
In parallel, political parties such as Bagerhat district BNP and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami will conduct their own programmes, including rallies and discussion meetings, to honor the day.
