Baby Showing Measles Symptoms Dies at RpMCH

Rangpur: A seven-month-old baby named Farhan died of measles symptoms at Rangpur Medical College Hospital (RpMCH), increasing the child death toll from measles in the Rangpur division to 17. Officials from the Rangpur Divisional Health Director's office confirmed this information on Tuesday night. Farhan was the son of Monwar Hossain, a resident of Saidpur upazila in the Nilphamari district. The baby died while receiving treatment in the hospital's measles isolation ward on Monday night.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, in the last 24 hours, 14 patients with measles-rubella symptoms have been identified and admitted to different government hospitals in the Rangpur division. Among them, five new patients are under treatment in Kurigram, two in Nilphamari, and seven in Rangpur districts. From March 3 to September 15 this year, a total of 2,839 patients with measles-rubella symptoms have been identified in the Rangpur division, with 2,789 patients having recovered and returned home.

Currently, 50 patients are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the division, highlighting the ongoing health challenge posed by the measles outbreak in the region.
