Dhaka:Australia has pledged continued assistance to Bangladesh in addressing the Rohingya crisis through a new multi-year agreement with BRAC, valued at A$18 million (approximately Tk 155 crore).

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the agreement aims to support both Rohingya refugees and host communities in Cox's Bazar and Bhasan Char. Australian High Commissioner Susan Ryle and BRAC Executive Director Asif Saleh formalized the partnership in a signing ceremony attended by Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu.

The assistance will focus on healthcare, water and sanitation, education, disaster risk management, skills development, and protection services. It will also enhance the capabilities of partner organizations at local and national levels, broadening the program's reach.

Minister Asadul Habib Dulu emphasized that the Rohingya crisis is a global humanitarian issue, not just a challenge for Bangladesh. He noted Bangladesh's long-standing role in providing refuge to the Rohingya as part of its humanitarian obligations. The involvement of Australia is expected to bolster these ongoing efforts.

State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M. Iqbal Hossain also attended the event, underscoring the collaborative approach to addressing the crisis.
