Dhaka:The point-to-point inflation rate in Bangladesh increased to 8.34 percent in September 2026, up from 8.26 percent in August, as reported by the Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS).
According to United News of Bangladesh, this rise in overall inflation was driven by an increase in food inflation, which climbed to 7.22 percent in September from 7.02 percent in August. In contrast, non-food inflation saw a slight decrease, moving down to 9.30 percent from 9.32 percent.
In rural areas, general inflation reached 8.38 percent in September, up from 8.31 percent in August, though it remained lower than the 8.47 percent recorded in the same month last year. Rural food inflation increased to 7.18 percent from 7.01 percent, while non-food inflation slightly decreased to 9.57 percent from 9.59 percent.
Urban areas also experienced an inflation increase, with general inflation rising to 8.26 percent from 8.20 percent in August. Urban food inflation went up to 7.25 percent from 7.04 percent, while non-food inflation dropped to 8.94 percent from 8.97 percent.
In comparison, the inflation rates from September 2025 showed that food and non-food inflation in rural areas were 7.54 percent and 9.40 percent, respectively, while urban rates were 7.94 percent for food and 8.51 percent for non-food items.
