Dhaka:BNP acting Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi stated that the brutal killing of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) student Abrar Fahad had awakened the nation to resistance, marking it as a rare occurrence in the country's history.
According to United News of Bangladesh, Rizvi made these remarks during a discussion at the Senate Building of Dhaka University, commemorating the seventh martyrdom anniversary of Abrar Fahad. The event was organized by the Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) and focused on national unity against hegemonism and imperialism under the title 'The Foreign Policy of a BNP Government: National Unity Against Hegemonism, Expansionism and Imperialism; and Commitment to Protecting Independence, Sovereignty and Territorial Integrity.'
Rizvi expressed frustration over the lack of national response to previous movements against injustice and extrajudicial activities, highlighting the eventual mass uprising in July 2024 as a culmination of Abrar's death. He noted that Sheikh Hasina could not suppress the nation's rebellion, resulting in her fleeing the country.
The BNP leader criticized agreements made by the government, implying they weakened national sovereignty and independence. He cited Abrar Fahad's Facebook post as a challenge to aggressive forces and accused conspirators of attempting to instill fear through Abrar's killing, which ultimately failed.
Rizvi honored Abrar as the 'first martyr' in the struggle against hegemonism, emphasizing the ongoing commitment to protect the country's territory and existence. He also praised JCD's adherence to Khaleda Zia's political line despite facing violence.
Abrar Fahad, an Electrical and Electronic Engineering student at BUET, was murdered at Sher-e-Bangla Hall on October 6, 2019.
