Dhaka: Army Headquarters announced the deployment of approximately 100,000 army personnel nationwide to ensure a free and fair national election, focusing on restoring voters’ confidence.

According to United News of Bangladesh, Brig Gen Dewan Mohammad Monzur Hossain, Director of the Military Operations Directorate at Army Headquarters, revealed the deployment details at a press briefing held at the Roller Skating Complex in the capital. This deployment exceeds previous efforts, where only 40,000 to 42,000 army personnel were stationed, primarily as striking forces distant from polling centers.

For the first time, army patrols are permitted to operate up to the polling center premises, enhancing voter safety and ensuring unobstructed access to voting sites. The Army Chief has minimized personnel in barracks, deploying the majority to facilitate a credible electoral process.

Brig Gen Monzur noted a shortage of vehicles required for army operations, prompting support requests from the civil administration. In cases where requisitioned vehicles are unavailable, vehicles are being hired to maintain uninterrupted patrols. Army personnel are conducting continuous patrols to rebuild public trust.

He emphasized the importance of maintaining law and order well before the election to ensure a fair process. Consequently, the army’s deployment increased from 35,000 to 50,000 on January 10, 2026, and further expanded to 100,000 on January 20, 2026. Additionally, the Navy has deployed 5,000 personnel, and the Air Force has contributed 3,730 members.

The Bangladesh Army is active in 62 of the country’s 64 districts and 411 upazilas, with 544 temporary camps established. Surveillance has been bolstered through regular patrols, joint operations, and the establishment of check posts, while weapons recovery operations continue.
